Our Story

About Us, Narrated by Shannon

Derrick has had a life-long love and appreciation for pointing dogs. The majority of his life he has been a bird dog owner and avid upland hunter. Today at Jump Creek Kennels we train pointing dogs with the philosophy that everything we do is in the best interest of the dog. 
Derrick is a certified AKC and AFTCA judge and handler. He has both judged and handled pointing breeds in trials across the nation. We have competed in licensed field trials at local, regional and national levels. Derrick has worked with a variety of bird dog breeds to include German Shorthair Pointers, German Wirehaired Pointers, Brittany, Gordon Setters, Labrador Retrievers, Griffons, Vizslas, Llewellin Setters, English Setters, Pudel Pointers, Springer Spaniels and Red and White Setters. 
I have had the same depth of passion for horses and dogs alike.  Derrick's love for bird dogs coupled with my love for horses has helped us become a solid team in training and competing.
Derrick has a degree in wildlife management and decades of experience owning and managing successful small businesses. I have degrees in both counseling and psychology with 15 years of counseling experience in the correctional setting. Together we chose to follow our passions and open Jump Creek Kennels to others!
